About Us
Chichester’s longest established opticians
The Richard Tildesley Practice is a friendly, fully independent Ophthalmic practice that was established in Chichester in 1965.
We are Chichester’s longest established opticians, and we like to think we are a little bit different from the usual high street practice.
From the moment you come through the door, you are treated as an individual and we are well known for our stylish dispensing, professional Ophthalmic care and excellent personal service.
We welcome both private and NHS patients.
Our Services
Eye Tests & Dispensing
Eye tests and contact lens fittings are carried out by our experienced Optometrists who are more than happy to see patients with complex or unusual prescriptions.
Importantly, we allow our Optometrists enough time to listen to your concerns, explain the findings of your personalised eye examination and show you the results of any supplementary tests such as OCT and Optomap.
When it comes to dispensing, our aim is to make this a pleasure rather than a chore. We have a light and spacious dispensing area so that you can take your time choosing frames and lenses, expertly guided by our fully qualified dispensing opticians to ensure that you are delighted with your new glasses.
Not only do we want you to see as well as possible, but look and feel great as well!
Our Services
Frames & Lenses
We stock a stylish collection of traditional, contemporary and designer frames (many of which are exclusive to us in Chichester) and high-quality lenses from a range of suppliers to suit all budgets.
We are happy to dispense glasses using prescriptions from other opticians and we can also fit lenses to your own frame, subject to age and condition of the frame.
We are varifocal experts, so if you have struggled with varifocals in the past, give us a try.
Our Services
OCT & Optomap Imaging Technology
We have an established professional reputation, built over five decades, with strong links with local NHS and private Ophthalmic consultants.
In 2017, we invested in OCT technology for our practice. This enables us to scan the central retina and detect any early signs of conditions like macular degeneration, macular holes and AMD.
It can also help us monitor problems due to high blood pressure, diabetes, glaucoma, corneal abnormalities and even floaters.
In 2023 we further invested in Optomap imaging which provides a wide scan of up to 80% of the retina. This enables our optometrists to see a much wider view of the retina to assess for retinal problems such as haemorrhages, retinal tears etc.
The benefit of having an OCT and Optomap scan means that any problems we may detect can be treated quickly and therefore there is less chance of your eyesight being permanently affected.
What our Customers say
“Fantastic service every time. This practice was recommended to me several years ago and I wouldn’t go anywhere else now. The knowledge, professionalism experience and consistency is something that I really value.”
